How has dyslexia made me a better person?
I honestly believe that it’s made me an even more unique individual. The things some people tend to struggle with I dance right through. I’m at my best with hands on activities and sitting in a lecture is just so boring. I daydream a lot and have the wildest thoughts which tend to make me laugh. I can remember numbers if I focus a lot. I’m very creative and can make friends pretty easy. I can also make people laugh! When some people think they go from A to B. I go from A to D to Q to R and finally to back to B. Even though I struggle with words, I love reading. I can’t do it a lot because white paper and black ink give me a terrible glare and result in headaches, but I do my best. I love writing which goes back to my love of reading.
How has dyslexia hindered me?
A lot. I cannot read a clock regardless of how or who teaches me. This really sucks if your trying to time something in lab, be on time for class, etc. I usually just don’t talk and ask others if they do the time watch I’ll write everything down. Writing stuff down is also very difficult. Making sure things are in order, are spelled right, and are wrote down fast enough stress me out. I don’t know how many times in lecture the professor is talking and I’m trying to keep up with them and I can’t for the life of me remember how to spell, “who” “how” and other very simple words. Pressure I guess. Directions are also my mortal enemy. I HATE when people talk about roads and streets! I always pretend to know where they’re talking about and nod. Landmarks are my best friend!
